چکیده

Groundwater is crucial for economic development in arid and semiarid areas. The Shiyang River Basin (SRB) has the most prominent water use issues northwestern China, overexploited groundwater resources have led to continuous groundwater-level decline. key governance planning project of SRB was issued 2007. This paper synthetically combines remote-sensing data from Gravity Recovery Climate Experiment (GRACE) precipitation, actual evapotranspiration, land use, situ evaluate storage variations on a regional scale. Terrestrial anomalies (TWSA) (GWSA), addition their influencing factors since implementation project, are analyzed order effect governance. results show that GRACE-derived GWS consistent with observation basin, correlation coefficient 0.68. had slow downward trend 2003 2016, this increased by 0.38 billion m³/year after 2018. As meteorological did not change significantly, changes mainly caused human activities, which estimated using principle balance. decline middle lower reaches been curbed 2009 gradually rebounded 2014. decreased 2.2 mm EWH (equivalent height) 2011 91% than 2007 2010. cropland area also stopped increasing 2014, while natural vegetation increased, indicating level associated ecology significantly recovered project.

Assessing Terrestrial Water Storage and Flood Potential Using GRACE Data in the Yangtze River Basin, China

Floods have caused tremendous economic, societal and ecological losses in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) of China. To reduce the impact of these disasters, it is important to understand the variables affecting the hydrological state of the basin. In this study, we used Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite data, flood potential index (FPI), precipitation data (Tropical Rainfa...

Predicting groundwater level changes using GRACE data

[1] The purpose of this work is to investigate the feasibility of downscaling Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite data for predicting groundwater level changes and, thus, enhancing current capability for sustainable water resources management. In many parts of the world, water management decisions are traditionally informed by in situ observation networks which, unfortunat...

Analysis of Streamflow Changes under Climate Change Using Rainfall-Runoff Model in the Kor River Basin

Abstract In this study, the predicted monthly temperature and rainfall data from HadCM3 model (base period, ۱۹۷۲-۲۰۰۱) and next period (۲۰۱۱-۲۰۴۰) under A2emission scenario were used to investigate the impacts of climate change on runoff variations in the Kor river basin. HadCM3 model output was downscaled based on a temporal downscaling approach (Change Factor) and spatial downscaling appro...

Estimating Groundwater Storage Changes in the Western Kansas Using Grace Data

The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) delivers monthly gravity fields since it was launched in March 2002, which provides a new way to monitor the groundwater storage variations for large regions. In this study, we attempt to apply the GRACE data combined with estimated soil moisture based on the water balance approach to estimate monthly groundwater changes in the western Kansas ...

Comparison of GRACE with in situ hydrological measurement data shows storage depletion in Hai River basin, Northern China

Water storage change has implications not only for the hydrological cycle, but also for sustainable water resource management in especially semi-arid river basins. Satellite/remote sensing techniques have gained increasing application in monitoring basin and regional hydrological processes in recent decades. In this study, the latest version of GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) is...
